Lupus is a life threatening auto immune disease that can attack any organ in the body. Simply put, in a person with lupus, the immune system loses it's ability to identify which cells are good and which cells are bad so it goes into overdrive and starts to attack everything, good or bad. As a result of this, treatment usually involves medicines to suppress the immune system, which in turn leaves the body susceptible to other complications.
